Distinct effects of winter monsoon and westerly circulation on dust aerosol transport over East Asia

چکیده

The transport of dust aerosol in East Asia is affected by the Asian winter monsoon (EAWM) and westerly circulation both for modern geological periods. There are obvious seasonal changes intensity range EAWM jet; however, their impacts relative contributions to transmission still unclear. In this study, we use Regional Climate Model 4 (RegCM4) simulate cycle under present conditions, assessing effects jet on transport. results show that at upper level mainly transported circulation, while lower layer EAWM. March, located south side Tibet Plateau, high-level transmitted eastward northern Pacific. Low-level southeastern China with influence With northward shift jet, control winds increases May correlations weakened. contrary, impact enhanced. Due strengthened interaction between EAWM, they can affect middle-level transmission. effect sensitive particle sizes. Under action fine-grained far away, coarse-grained limited vicinity source area. Once carried layer, different sizes similar.

Aerosol and monsoon climate interactions over Asia

The increasing severity of droughts/floods and worsening air quality from increasing aerosols in Asia monsoon regions are the two gravest threats facing over 60% of the world population living in Asian monsoon regions. These dual threats have fueled a large body of research in the last decade on the roles of aerosols in impacting Asian monsoon weather and climate. This paper provides a comprehe...

Winter to winter recurrence of atmospheric circulation anomalies over East Asia and its impact on winter surface air temperature anomalies

The persistence of atmospheric circulation anomalies over East Asia shows a winter to winter recurrence (WTWR) phenomenon. Seasonal variations in sea level pressure anomalies and surface wind anomalies display significantly different characteristics between WTWR and non-WTWR years. The WTWR years are characterized by the recurrence of both a strong (weak) anomalous Siberian High and an East Asi...
